The New York Knicks have been taking the country by surprise with their 7 straight wins. So who is to thank for much of this success? His name wasn’t well known until the winning streak began. He played ball for Harvard and signed as a free agent to Golden State Warriors in 2010. When the Knicks got a hold of him this year, fans paid little to no mind of the guy. But when star players Carmelo Anthony (who pulled his groin early February) and Amare Stoudemire (who lost his brother in a car accident) were unable to play in the upcoming games, it was HIS time to shine.
Jeremy Lin, or better known as Linsanity as fans like to call him, took the team by shock. The 5 games without both key players, Anthony and Stoudemire, were victories. Maybe we should re-evaluate here: Carmelo was traded to the Knicks with the hope and excitement for a great year. However, the team has been on a roller coaster since starting this year’s season. Carmelo pulled his groin early February after throwing an alley-oop to Chandler in the game against Utah Jazz. Since then, Melo’s been out and the team has taken over the NBA with 7 straight wins. Maybe he should pull muscles more often?
Lin’s success is just what the team needed after some miserable games they’ve had in the past. Knicks fans began to see light at the end of the tunnel. Lin brought back the liveliness of the Garden that was missing for some time. He was an underdog, no one expected him to come out of nowhere and be the one to look out for. Now, everyone wants his jersey and the chants of “MVP” at the end of each home game only proves Linsanity is here to stay.
If you’re a regular at Straw’s then you probably know Michael Strawberry well. But for those who don’t know this wonderful man read our little breakdown.
Michael Strawberry was born and raised in LA and was the oldest of five kids. Michael was drafted to the LA Dodgers and played baseball in his hometown for three years before following his childhood dream of becoming a police officer. As a member of the LAPD, Michael was indispensible. He worked not only in the gang unit but in Narcotics and as a detective as well. Michael’s proudest achievement as a police officer was his contribution to the Police Athletic League. Michael coordinated sporting events for the children throughout the south central LA area.
In July of 2010, upon his retirement from the force, we had the good fortune of welcoming Michael to Queens, where his young brother Darryl, has been a baseball legend.
In August of 2010 Strawberry’s Sports Grill opened for business with Michael Strawberry serving as an ambassador to the community. Strawberry’s Grill has become a true member of the community and no one more so than Michael. He is the smiling, gracious face who knows the sports fans, children and families alike that enter through the doors of Strawberry’s Grill. Recently, he was even honored by Queens for being the ‘King of Queens’!
He is a true friend to the community and inspirational role model to all that meet him. If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Michael Strawberry, you can catch him over at Strawberry’s!

Halloween is considered the third biggest party day of the year! It’s a festive holiday that children and adults can both participate in. We know all about the American traditions for Halloween but how exactly did it all get started? We didn’t really think Hershey created it so we did a little research and put together some fun facts for you.
- Halloween is on October 31st because it’s the last day of the Celtic calendar
- It was originally a pagan holiday honoring the dead
- Was referred to as ‘All Hallows Eve’ and it dates back 2,000 years
- Roots lay in the Celtic feast of Samhain “Summers end”, which was a day to honor the dead
- It is also the eve of ‘All Saints Day’ which was created by Christians to convert pagans.
- The Celts believed the souls of the dead roamed the streets & since not all of them were friendly they put out gifs & treats to make them happy. This is where some think trick-or-treating came from.
- Jack-o-lanterns comes from the old Irish tradition of carving turnips into lanterns as a way to remember the souls held in purgatory
- In Scotland and Ireland, Guising — children disguised in costume going from door to door for food or coins — is a traditional Halloween custom
- Candy apples are usually associated with the holiday because of the annual apple harvest happening the same time of year.

Fundraising is often times a necessity to worthwhile charitable causes. There never seems to be enough money in this world to get everything done. People often step up to the plate to try and raise necessary funds and we want to join the ranks and do our part.
We have decided that if any non-profit, school, cause, charity etc. wants to host a fundraiser at Strawberry’s Sports Grill, we will participate in the fundraiser by donating 10% of our earnings for the event back to the cause. We believe that making such contributions will be an even bigger incentive for people to contribute when they realize that we are also participating in the event and the more they enjoy themselves, the more we will contribute. We hope to start a trend throughout the restaurant industry and hope to inspire other restaurants to help in a similar manner.
We are just two weeks away from the start of football season and boy are we stoked! Some people think the tradition of football is interwoven into the American psyche and we certainly do show a religious-like devotion to it. How do we love football season? Let us count the ways….
The Tradition: The tradition of football dates back for centuries and as the world around us changes, our love for football doesn’t. The sport epitomizes many traditional American values such as hard work, teamwork, toughness, victory, and glory.
The Parties: Football has become a really great outlet for socializing. Whether it is you and a few buddies at your local bar or a full out bash at your pad, the game gives you a good reason to get together and bond.
The Food: Over the years we Americans have developed a new type of cuisine. ‘Football Food’ usually consists of Buffalo wings, nachos, burgers, hotdogs, BBQ, fries and other various types of fried food.
The Devotion: A large part of the excitement of football is the energy of the fans. The fan base and level of devotion given to football teams is unprecedented. Some families even trace their allegiances back for generations.
The Drinking: It’s not very often you feel justified having a beer at noon on a Sunday. However, football allows you to crack open a beer and watch the game, no matter what time of day it is. They seem to go hand and hand.
The Game: Football is a game of strategy, tactics, strength, drama, knockouts and so much more. The game alone is enough to keep us interested.
As you can see football season embodies a lot. It is, by far, the most watched American sport on TV today and we LOVE to have fans in to watch with us!
